Artisan Bio

My name is Jack Weeks.

I enjoy studying the 18th and 19th century methods used to make hunting bags and accoutrements. I started making leather items of my own design for field use about 20 years ago, crafting items a hunter would make for himself, those made by a local harness maker or by a traveling cobbler. I also adapt designs used by militiamen of the era. Upon occasion I collaborate with like minded fellow artists to create that one of a kind rig.

My pieces of hunting and trekking gear are made to be "used hard" and passed down to generations of black powder hunters as part of "grandpa's hunting outfit".

Each hand cut and linen stitched item I make is unique and field tested by me. All the leather is hand finished with my own home crafted bears oil and beeswax leather daubing.

Please feel free to contact me for additional pictures or information. I love discussing historical trekking. I maintain a rather relaxed endeavor at my home studio in the Huron National Forest in Michigan. I do accept commissions and will help you pull together a rig to fit your style.

You can find my pieces online exclusively at the Main Branch Gallery in Grayling, Michigan www.mainbranchgallery.com or at the Contemporary Longrifle Association www.longrifle.com.
