French Officers Percussion Pistol

This pistol is from my own collection. I had Charles Hanson evaluate it some years ago when I was passing through Chadron Nebraska and stopped at the Museum of the Fur Trade. He said it was a French Officers Pistol that had been factory converted from Flint to Percussion. A new percussion breech had been added and the vent hole plugged. This moved the muzzle forward from being flush with the stock. He said when originally built in flintlock they would have a number 1 stamped on the tang and a number 2 stamped on the other since they were issued in pairs. With the new breech the number went away. The barrel is 8 1/2″ long and a smooth bore. The caliber is approximately .680. This shows no signs of having been fired as a percussion pistol. The bore is shiny with no pitting. The face of the breech plug doesn’t have any fowling either. The lock works fine also. I was going to shoot this but never have gotten around to it. Time for it to be in a new collection.
