Up for purchase is a M1816 Sea Fencibles musket. It is dated 1816. It was originally a M1812 type 3 musket. Very rare platform for a sea fencible. I have seen 1817 dated ones. This is the first M1812 I have seen. Although I have seen Whitney M1812’s converted. I is a nice musket. I put a small coat of oil on it. Displays very well. The lock markings are very clear with a sharp US/Springfield the date is nice also. The barrel V/P/eagle head is weak but visible. There is no date on the tang but the breech plug does have nice markings. The ramrod looks original. Full length 42″. The barrel is 42″ with a very slight upward curve. You can’t see it unless you’re looking for it (mentioning for accuracy). Bayonet lug has been removed. I’ve seen that on lots of them. Sling swivels missing. Butt plate marked “8”. The lock will not hold full cock. Half cock ok. Strong mainspring. Barrel is clear but could use a wipe.
