Possibly restocked as an Indian trade rifle this example had been a rather nice rifle by Jacob Hoak from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. All the mounts are of Hoak’s style. It is stocked in walnut which was the wood Jacob used on other rifles. The architecture is similar to other Hoak rifles however, since Hoak died in 1831 it is not likely he made the rifle. The lock is maked Tyron giving rise to the idea it may have been restocked for the Indian trade. The 45 inch barrel is about .65 cal.
This is an interesting rifle in very good condition with a beautifully engraved patchbox and a long graceful look.
