Model 1816 U.S. Flintlock Musket w/ Bayonet, Type II, W.L. Evans, Valley Forge, 1826, .69 Caliber, 42-Inch Barrel
Standard lock marking (misspelled by die maker) “W.L. EVENS” above American eagle above “V. Forge”; the date, “1826” stamped vertically behind hammer. Barrel marked, left side at breech with “P” and eagle. Walnut stock displays old color, iron mountings and barrel finished brown (thinning, about gone); lockplate is flat/beveled…rear section rounded; brass flashpan. Sling swivel mounted to bow of trigger guard. Minor imperfections commensurate with age and use include a tight and short grain fissure with a very small bit of wood loss at top of channel located several inches behind first barrel band…not distracting. There is a small “V” shape grain fissure with tiny old wood loss tight to buttplate tang, lock side. Pitting in touch-hole area. These imperfections are minor and are mentioned for full disclosure.
