The era depicted is late18th or early 19th century as gun builders were setting up shop and establishing their reputations. A middle aged man in a hunting shirt with his early Kentucky rifle describes a possible Revolutionary War veteran with an early Kentucky rifle, the details of which were copied from the extant Garret Walls rifle made by Lyn West. Standing before a stone fence, an icon of the Lexington area estates, a colonial mansion stands in the far background and a large barns describes the wealth beginning to be concentrated around the fertile rolling hills of Lexington.
This work was created specifically to go with a display at the 2020 Contemporary Longrifle Association annual show to commemorate and celebrate the roots of Lexington’s rifle industry. The display was cancelled and it was premiered at the artist’s own table.
