Hand sewn and bead deer hide Half Leggins. Though simplistic in construction and design, the half legging is an essential part of the Fur Trade Era women’s ensemble. It protected the wearer from the knee to the ankle while going about her daily tasks. A beautifully decorated pair can be a fashionable finishing touch for any hide dress, as well as an expression of modesty. Size 8 seed beads.

The half legging is basically a tube of hide or wool wrapped around the lower leg with a seam at the back. It can be tied either below or above the knee with a wide lacing. If tied below the knee, the top can be folded over the lace tie. At the bottom of the back seam, a slit opening is left to allow the half legging to slip easily over the foot. It is held closed with a row of small ties.
As expected these do have natural flaws, scars, and holes that occur during the life of the animal or the tanning process. They
have been perfectly patched and sewn as seen in the photos with sinew.
