Product Description

Offering this plain gun with early Virginia styling. Plain guns were quite common historically. They were basic no nonsense guns used by settlers and farmers. This plain gun is made without a butt plate, side plate, ramrod entry thimble, or nose cap.
I build my guns from a blank stock, and I perform most of the work by hand. Though unadorned, this rifle features top quality components.
The barrel is made by Rice Barrel Company. It’s fully swamped for excellent balance; and is .58 caliber, and 43” long. It features Rice’s standard round bottom rifling, with a twist of 1 turn in 66 inches. The width of the barrel at the breach is 1.062 inches. It tapers down to .840, then flares slightly to .937 at the muzzle. The lock is a Chambers Early Ketland, known for its quality and speed. The trigger, trigger plate, ramrod thimbles, and sights are hand made by myself.
The stock is a piece of Red Maple that has some nice figure to it. I finish my guns by scraping and burnishing, which is how the original guns were finished. Scraping and burnishing gives a look and feel that is both warm and welcoming. This plain gun has also been dressed with some molding on the cheek piece, and incise lines on the toe and upper forearm. The metal work has also been aged.
Overall length of the gun is 58 ½ inches. Drop to heel is 3 ½ inches. Length of pull is 13 ¾ inches. Weight is between 8 ½ and 9 pounds. The ramrod is hand tapered, and has a tapered steel tip on the small end, that is threaded 8X32. The gun handles very nicely, and balances at the forearm transition.
This is a no nonsense hunting gun that is as beautiful as it is functional. And with moderate loads is powerful enough for any North American game. My price for this gun is $2400, which includes the cost of a crate and shipping. Thanks for looking.
