Percussion single barrel jug full choked, by Caywood, shotgun. Quite suitable for turkey and waterfowl hunting. 30” 12 gauge Oregon Barrel Works barrel, hook breech, silver spider front sight, 2 silver band at breech. The buttplate, trigger guard, breech, lock and triggers are original to an English shotgun about the period of 1850. The guard finial was missing so another was TIG welded on and engraved. The lock is of high quality marked “Robert Jones” and the cup of the hammer restored by TIG welding and shaped. The breech is original but the threaded part of the breech had been sawed off. A new one was made and sleeved into the original breech.. Some re-engraving had to be done. The tang is new and not original since the original one was lost in a fire just after it was re-engraved. The breech is 1 3/8” wide. The stock is figured American walnut. The upper edge of the stock forearm have some repairs in two places as pictured where it was chipped accidentally but is barely noticeable The gun is substantial and weighs 9 1/2 lbs. It has been shot about a dozen times and taken out hunting twice.
I would consider trading it towards a smooth bore flint trade gun.
