Product Description

C. L. Smith is a little known maker from Covington, Va. Curtis has been a builder for over 30 years and was, many years, ago a Best of Show winner at Dixon’s in the journeyman class. He stopped building about 3 years ago due to arthritis in his hands Curtis has never advertised or promoted his guns other that to display offerings at a small shop in White Sulphur Springs, WV. Most of his 150 plus works have been sold to clients of the Greenbrier in Lewisburg, WV. This rifle was completed in 1996 and carries the # 0009 although Curtis claims he made as many as 15 prior to the time he began to date and sign his works. It is a 50 cal Gets barrel, Siler Golden Age lock and Davis double set triggers. The original purchaser got it directly from Curtis and I in turn from him. Neither of us ever fired it so the only firing has been by the builder to proof the rifle. There are several interesting features on the rifle. The lock plate carries the silhouette of Warm Springs Mt with a pair of eagles flying overhead. The rifle was finished in the month of a blue moon so Curtis added a feature of two new moons and two full moons, one being blue, to the underside of the stock. I have never cleaned or polished the brass and allowed it to age naturally. I have several rifles made by Curtis and they always perform flawlessly and accurately. The rifle pictures/offered is NOT the one which won best of show. A. Scanlan 540-473-1710
