Product Description

This eye catching powder horn is made in a style that was commercially produced in North Georgia during the 19th century.

This horn measures a little over 12” around the outside curve. It features a turned applied antler tip; applied horn bands that have been painted in the correct style.

The base plug is a two part plug turned from cherry. The button for attachment of the strap has the wood grain orientation longitudinal to the horn. This increases the strength of the strap attachment. The portion that is the strap attachment is inserted into a reverse tapered hole in the main base plug and secured with a wooden wedge. The base plug has been hollowed to reduce weight and increase powder capacity.

The finished base plug has been decorated in the appropriate style with painted red and black bands.

The base plug has been secured to the horn with brass tacks. This style of horn also has stopper made from leather.

Both Jeff and Shelly are reenactors who began by creating items for themselves.  They attend many living history events a year.  In their free time they piddle around their farm where they make wines, ales, and fill their pantry with home-canned items.  They can be found hunting, trapping , and fishing.  Sometimes, they incorporate their trophies in their custom work.
