Up for consideration is a 12 ½” outside curve, left side carry powder horn by Mike Roberts. This horn has a stained maple turned beehive base plug secured by 8 steel nails. The throat is carved and engrailed with 2 strap rings to attach the horn strap. The tip has 8 octagonal flats, the topper is key- shaped and hand fitted to the opening.
On the body you will find a severed snake representing the 8 distinct British colonies. This political cartoon was first authored by Benjamin Franklin to urge the colonies to unite against the French and their Indian allies in the French & Indian War 1954. You will also find a soldier, Patrick Henry, with his famous quote “Liberty or Death” scrolled across a banner above him. Additionally, there is a folk-art Federal Eagle carrying a bundle of arrows and a spear. The top and the bottom of the horn have scalloped borders. As usual, you will find the maker’s mark engrailed on the horn with initials and date.
This horn comes with a 40”, adjustable, jute strap.
