Product Description

Knife forged of 1080 steel and hand finished. The blade is slightly aged with a pinned deer leg bone handle and pewter bolster. The overall length of the knife is 8 5/8” with a 5” blade with a 1 1/2″ unsharpened false edge. The spine is .134” at the bolster. The blade is properly tempered and is very sharp with a slight aged look.

This handle color is an experiment using Cochineal Natural Dye. Cochineal is the female insect of Dactylopius coccus that colonize the prickly pear (nopal) cactus native to Mexico, Central and South America and the Canary Islands.
Cochineal-dyed materials can also be seen in colonial-era paintings, not only in elite clothing but also in the fashion, for example, of Spanish and Flemish painters to have portrait subjects stand or sit in front of a bright red curtain, a reminder of the wealth required to own such items of decoration. Further, cochineal was used to paint cochineal-dyed subjects. Lally House also uses this in her quill work.

The knife comes with the pictured sheath that is Mennonite sewn on a treadle powered machine with a 2” belt loop.

Please reference the number 12 of the knife shown in the pictures with any questions.
Price $130.00 which includes shipping to the continental US.
