I made this bow set nearly two decades ago. Like all my bows I constructed it to be fully functional. However the woman who acquired it from me used it in a historical theatrical performance, and as far as I know it has been hanging on the wall ever since. Unfortunately because I don’t know how the bow has been stored and the lack of stress on the limbs I can’t warranty it.
The bow itself is made of beautifully aged osage orange. The five arrows are constructed of dogwood shafts and have “lightning groves” just like the originals. Like period arrows they also warp slightly. Arrows were constantly being straightened during their life. These are fletched with turkey tail feathers and tipped with iron trade points.
All of these are housed in a ragged ol prairie coyote case and quiver.
The fire kit pouch is the focal piece that completes the set. This is some of the finest beadwork I’ve done, all with traditional glass beads on brain-tanned hide. The colors and pattern is reminiscent of Kiowa, Cheyenne, Lakota and other central plains tribes of the last half of the 1800’s.
While it was great to be reunited with my bow set again I simply don’t have the wall space it deserves. And although I can’t pass this on as a functioning set it will look great hanging from your lodge pole or cabin wall. Price includes shipping anywhere in continental US.
