Signed (stamped) “P. GONTER.” on top flat of .56 cal., 47-1/8” octagon to round barrel with “wedding band.” Re-conversion on old “ROBBINS” plate. Cast brass front sight, rifle-style rear sight, butt 1.775” at widest point. Graceful incise carving and bold relief around the tang. Top flat of barrel lightly marked near breech with crossed arrows & a tobacco leaf. Barrel markings and early trade-gun-style trigger guard suggest this gun was made for the Indian trade. Some fore-stock wood, forward two thimbles, and muzzle cap replaced and restored.
