Ken Scott was born in West Frankfort, Illinois. He majored in commercial art at Southern Illinois University and has worked in radio broadcast, T.V. news as a writer/reporter/video photographer, commercial art and advertising. Ken and his wife, Virginia, have owned Ken Scott & Co., Inc., advertising, marketing & design since 1983.

Ken became interested in muzzleloading in 1973. He built a Kentucky rifle in 1974 and began leatherwork, making pouches and accoutrements for himself, which then led to making them for blanket prizes, gifts and then for sale.
